Meet Dr. Janet Long
Throughout her career, Dr. Janet Long has worked to create opportunities for low- income, first-generation and underrepresented students. As director of TRIO programs and Hispanic Serving Institution grants across multiple campuses, she has ensured that 100% of her students went on to postsecondary institutions to attain associate degrees to bachelorette degrees and beyond.
Her resume includes several projects and programs directed at serving students. From TRIO programs that include Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science grants for high school students and Student Support Services grants for college students. This work helped prepare students for high school graduation and college attainment.
Dr. Long has been married to her husband, William, for 45 years and has lived in Jurupa Valley for 36 years. She retired as an adjunct sociology professor and served as a Board Member for the Taft Newman Leadership Academy in San Bernardino. Dr. Long was also Executive Director of Priscilla’s Helping Hands, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that served the economically and educationally disadvantaged population in the Del Rosa district.
Dr. Long has a BA and MA in Sociology and an Ed.D. in Education with emphasis on Educational Leadership. Her career as an educator started as coordinator of the first ever program serving college students who were former foster youth, after which she served as director of federally funded educational programs that serve low-income, first-generation and underrepresented students.
Dr. Long is running for the Riverside County Office of Education, Trustee Area 2 because she wants children to get the best education possible and create opportunities for their future. Her experience in supporting ALL students will be an invaluable asset to the area.
